Job Description
The Quality and Training Advisor (QTA) is responsible for advising offshore personnel on Pacific Drilling Quality, Health, Safety, Environment, and Training management systems on board the vessel. The QTA assists in enhancing the QHSE skills of crew.
Position Scope:
The QTA assists, recommends and advises the Vessel Management Team, the department supervisors and the crews on Quality, HSE and Training matters. The position provides the vital link between Quality, HSE and Training organizations onshore and implements the systems in the offshore environment. In addition to providing support to rig management, the position requires facilitation and/or delivery of Quality and HSE courses in order to develop crew skills.
Reporting Relationships:
Direct Manager/Supervisor - Drilling Superintendent
Functional Communication Relationships - Country Q&HSE Manager, HR Training Manager; the QTA will also liaise with Client assigned HSE representatives as required.
Supervisory Relationships
The Quality and Training Advisor has no direct reports.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Comply with Pacific Drilling Code of Conduct and supporting policies, standards and applicable process documentation.
Perform all work according to agreed expectations of both internal and external customers, focus on doing things right the first time, every time, and contribute actively to continual improvement activities.
Act as a Quality and HSE leader ensuring the ongoing identification of hazards and the implementation of controls to manage the associated risks with a special focus on Permit to Work and Isolation procedures.
Promote 100% compliance, all the time with Pacific Drilling Quality, HSE and Training management systems by all personnel on-board.
Observe onboard operations on a daily basis.
Facilitate/Instruct HSE-related courses:
Assist and advise rig crews with safe work practices.
Monitoring of critical ongoing operations.
Planning and execution of HSE meetings, pre-tour and pre-job meetings.
The offshore access and inputs to the training management system.
Incident prevention and incident investigation techniques.
Coach rig supervisors to monitor their crew's training progress.
Be the offshore point of contact for all matters related to:
Quality: with the shore-based Q&HSE Manager.
HSE: with the shore-based Q&HSE Manager.
Training: with the shore-based Training Managers.
Provide administration/support for training on board the rig including maintaining personnel's training records as per Pacific Drilling directions.
Assist in maintaining Quality, HSE and Training bulletin boards updated.
Participate in daily meetings with the PIC, department heads and client representative.
Maintain and monitor the housekeeping onboard to Pacific Drilling standards with a particular focus on escape routes.
Openly communicate with other departments, clients and third parties as required.
Clearly and accurately communicate work status at end of shift and end of hitch hand-overs to relieving Quality and Training Advisor.
Completion of all mandatory training and certification requirements for Quality & Training Advisor as described in the Pacific Drilling offshore Training matrix.
Qualifications and Experience
High School diploma, senior school certificate (SSCE)/ West Africa Examination Council (WAEC)/ GCE O/L, or equivalent.
Three years of offshore experience and demonstrated Quality and HSE leadership, or as an alternate three years of Quality and HSE experience in associated industries plus an offshore orientation period to ensure as a minimum the qualification requirements for roustabout and roughneck as per Pacific Drilling Training Matrix.
Fluent English communication skills (oral and written) and organization skills.
Work Environment:
Offshore rotation; 28/28. Working a 12 hour shift under normal circumstances.
